Antigone
1939

The production of Sophocles’ ANTIGONE took place in March 1939.

The actors’ edition and translation sold to audiences was R.C. Trevelyan, The Antigone of Sophocles, Cambridge 1939. The music by Patrick Hadley was published (Oxford 1939).

The impression left by the chorus is remarkably strong. They are, as Aristotle said they should be, one of the actors… the hopes and fears of the chorus become truly a part of the play.
